Job Requirements Previous experience in social media or communications work required along with demonstrated abilities to build audience for web initiatives and manage multiple projects required. Knowledge of AP style, basic HTML, best practices for search engine optimization and experience with crowd-sourced projects also desired. The Social Media Production Assistant will be based in the NewsHour offices in Arlington, Va.
This is a temporary position and is grant funded for the 18-month duration of the American Graduate project. The Production assistant will report to the Managing Editor, Digital News, in consultation with the National Affairs Editor.

Social Media Production Assistant, American Graduate
A Social Media Production Assistant is needed to help with daily social media outreach and community management for the PBS NewsHour's Web site. We are looking for a sharp individual with editorial skills and fluency on social media platforms who is looking to gain experience in online news production and promoting material for an iconic news brand.
Duties include:
- Attract, maintain and moderate an engaged audience for the American Graduate project on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Stumbleupon, Google+, Snappy.tv, Reddit, Flickr and other outlets. Monitor analytics to assess and adjust effectiveness of social media efforts.
- Develop strategic promotional and content sharing relationships with other Web sites and media outlets and establish contact with new organizations that may lend to the project.
--Maintain regular contact with 12 local station community liaisons that are participating in the project, reporting partners, schools, interviewees and others involved with the project for social media connectivity and engagement.
--Research innovative social media tools that may be used to expand the American Graduate reporting project online and pitch those ideas to the editorial team.
--Respond to viewer inquiries and maintain an open line for communication on the project through social media channels. Moderate comments on social media sites and on American Graduate content on the NewsHour website.
- Participate as part of the PBS NewsHour editorial and production team on social media projects, traffic reports, SEO and blogger outreach.
- Assist with other editorial, social media, video or production duties as assigned.
